Have you heard the news? We have upgraded our best seller to better serve YOU and we can't wait to show you her glow up. We call her the Caroline 2.0. She's our best-seller for a reason-- the easiest carry bag, the everyday go-to bag, and now the perfect travel bag.
If you're not already familiar with this bag, you're in for a treat. It's a versatile backpack bag without looking like a backpack. The Caroline has the ability to be detached at the bottom and can be “hidden” to convert from a backpack style to a satchel carry style. We at Lily Jade have designed ergonomically shaped and wide padded straps covered in our buttery soft vegan leather which helps resist staining and wear. Most competitor bags feature the seat belt style strap.
But wait! There's more. We have now outfitted her with extra details to make her the perfect travel companion bag. She is large enough to be your carryon, but small enough to be your personal item. She can handle laptops, books, a cardigan sweater and more. The best part is she now sports a trolley sleeve to allow you to slide her right over your luggage handle.
One of the fun things about design is how to marry form with function. Yes, we want a hard working bag, but we want it to look good and last for years to come. With the new trolley sleeve feature, we added the cutest snap to our zipper to neatly tuck it out of sight. When not in use, the trolley sleeve converts into a large lined pocket along the back!
We believe organization is a key to making life easier. Not only does the Caroline have "pockets for days", but the overall bag has more cubic inches of space compared to our competitors for all your on-the-go needs. While the Caroline looks sleek on the outside, she is deceptively spacious and can handle essentials and even overnight gear. Another upgrade feature we added: The newly zippered front pocket.
Our community (YOU guys) gave us feedback that instead of a magnetic snap, a more secure option with a zipper was preferred. She is now ready to carry all your gear comfortably and securely. You can get it in a range of colors in our signature premium leather or a beautiful faux vegan leather. You can't wrong either way you decide to go. Truly, it's the perfect bag for summer travel whether you're traveling by plane, train, or automobile. Take advantage of our 25% June sale to get this bag for a steal!

]]>Summer is officially here! With kids out of school, and nights extending longer as we approach the summer solstice, we feel a shift in our rhythms. It can be fun to mark an official start to this time of year with a fun gathering of friends. Even if you don't have access to a pool, you can make a splash to cool off with our fun sponge bomb bucket battle idea!
This fun summer activity is a great alternative to a water balloon fight. You don't have any balloons to fill... and even better, you don't have any balloons pieces to pick up afterward! Once you make these, you can reuse again and again all summer long!
To pull this off, you will need the following:

With Summer just around the corner, our packing cases are perfect for summertime play dates and trips. Why packing cases? It may seem superfluous or perhaps extra steps to being overly organized (as if such a thing existed), but these cases are really life changing! They help access your stuff faster, keep your items neater, and make traveling stress-free from daytrips to overseas trips and everything in between.
Have you seen our newest release colors? From Arabian Sea, to Evergreen to Sapphire Blue, our fun and fresh color palette will help keep you organized all summer long.
It's that time of year! The countdown is on for the last quarter of school. As you might be feeling the dread and drudgery of school routines, we have the perfect lunchbox revamp to help jazz up the everyday lunch to make your kids' days a little brighter. Read on to see our suggestions and snag our free printables!
If sandwiches are your only go-to for main staple, we have two options for you: 1) Make the shape more fun or 2) Change up the source of protein and ditch the traditional sandwich altogether.
One option can include purchasing an inexpensive sandwich cutter or press. Or buy a self-sealing set to make your own uncrustables! Just changing up the look of the lunch can reengage your child's enthusiasm for eating lunch.
Another option is to make your own lunchables with leftover crackers, cheese, and lunchmeat. You can also make a pizza version with mini naan, pepperoni, and marinara sauce. This allows you to customize the ingredients to what you know your child likes as well as control the quality of food you use.
Utilize a thermos for both hot and cold items. Last night's pasta can double as today's lunch. Or use it for yogurt parfaits with a favorite fruit or granola.
Use dips whenever possible. It makes it more fun to use for eating veggies or fruit. Hummus, ranch, peanut butter, or Nutella are all great options to boost flavor and protein. Another fun accessory are toothpicks or bento toothpicks. It turns regular lunch ingredients into a party!
Another fun easy snack for lunches or afterschool are these choco-nana cups. Simply melt 1 cup of your favorite chocolate chips or melting wafers and blend with 2 bananas and pour into silicone molds or silicone cupcake pan. Let set, pop out and enjoy!
And last but not least, is a Lunchbox Love Note. Including a fun note can make your child feel special midday when they open their lunch to that fun surprise. Check out our previous blog with free printables! This time we created jokes! And a punny set. Just follow these easy steps to print yours out:
- we recommend printing on cardstock if you have it
- on the joke cards, make sure you put your printer settings to double-sided on the long side
- if you want to save on ink, it might be more economical to print at your nearest print center (Fed-Ex Kinkos, Staples, Office Depot, etc.)

We know it's a challenge to keep our kids unplugged in a tech-saturated world. But the evidence keeps growing that emphasizes the benefits of having kids play outside. Did you know? It has been recommended that children get 4-6 hours of playtime outside per day?
That is definitely aspirational as it might not be doable every day, it certainly can be a goal to achieve a few times a week. Current statistics suggest that the average child gets only 4-7 minutes of outdoor free play. Why so much time outside? The purpose of challenging our families to be outside is an attempt to match our time in nature (which is restorative) with our screen time in our daily lives.
Unstructured imaginative play is so crucial for emotional, social and cognitive development. Allowing our kids autonomy to be curious has long-term benefits for maintaining cognitive function, mental health, and physical health.
We've posted about the benefits of outdoor time and suggested outdoor activities such as hiking, scavenger hunts, and even day trips or weekend getaways that foster time in the great outdoors. Or even moving a meal outdoors makes a for new setting that refreshes the senses.
But how do you do that during colder weather? As winter thaws into spring, make an outdoor themed craft! Not only do you do the craft outside, but the craft itself encourages more outdoor time-- Homemade birdhouses.
With a few simple recycled items and basic craft supplies, you can create lots of fun to chase the winter/ early spring blues away.
Supplies needed:
Start with prepping your cartons. Rinse and paint. Whether you decide to use spray paint or brush on paint, do this the day before your craft to allow for dry time. Make sure to also cut out holes for the birds.
For extra fun, gather neighbors or friends for this fun weekend or afterschool activity. Let each child decorate and paint his or her own birdhouse. Use paper plates as a paint palette and let the creativity flow!
After the cartons have dried, affix popsicles/ tongue depressors across the top of the carton with glue to serve as the "spine" for a thatched roof. You can build the roof with twigs, sticks and any other materials you can think of.
Don't forget the "feather the nest" with a bird perch using a thick twig on the outside and fill the inside with some bird seed. Lastly, make sure to use strong string or twine to hang birdfeeders and enjoy watching nature right outside your window.

]]>Valentine's is just around the corner! And whether or not you celebrate the holiday of love, we all recognize how important it is to prioritize time with our spouse. Date nights are a way to reset, reconnect, and refresh our relationships.
We also recognize the times in which we live. We all have a budget and big extras are not usually within reach. Before we talk about the way to plan a evening of activities, we want to also give you some ideas for childcare when you may live far from family or don't have an extravagant date night budget:
One last idea for cutting cost: If you switch off with another couple, you could even split the cost of supplies and do a similar themed date night.
Just because you stay home doesn't mean you have to default to Netflix. Nope! Make a new recipe and learn a new skill together... We present to you Fondue + Bob Ross night.
Before date night even happens, make sure to gather all the ingredients you will need. Buy some cheap paint supplies online or from a craft store (many have coupons!).
For our fondue, we used this recipe. You can also use broth as an alcohol alternative. Or pick your favorite dairy free dips if cheese isn't your thing. Or make a chocolate dessert fondue!
Move locations! If you have more than one eating area, use the fancy formal dining area that usually is reserved for special occasions. Pull out some candles, throw a tablecloth or runner on the table, and make it special. Consider even moving to a coffee table and cozy up around the lower seating area for a fun new setting. Don't forget to mute phones (you would if you were going to a movie theater or play!) and play your favorite moody playlist music in the background.
For the second part of the evening, grab your favorite beverage, a canvas, and some paints and follow along as you listen to the soothing voice of the master himself-- Bob Ross. You can find episodes on Amazon and YouTube.
Relax and have fun. Remember there are no mistakes, just happy accidents! Laugh at yourself and together. Just be in the moment and follow along (or pause if you need to) as best you can to see what fun end product you end up with. Happy Date Night!

Today's comparison features some brand names you're probably familiar with. In this post we're showing you the Lily Jade Brittany in Old English in Sand, the Portland Leather Crossbody Tote in Cognac, and the Madewell Medium Transport Tote in True Black. All of these styles are featured in genuine leather.
As you can immediately see, while all these bags have similar functionality, they have completely different styling. Let’s take a look at the various features as we break down each one for you.
First, we’ll observe aesthetics. The Brittany has a square tote look (being the smaller version of the Caroline), but features deep pockets and a flat bottom to easily hold all your gear without slumping over like a traditional tote bag. The other two bags have similar looks to a medium sized tote.
All three bags feature a flat front pocket The Portland pocket is reinforced with visible rivets at the top and visible stitching on the sides giving it a more rustic quality. The Madewell pocket is a very basic pocket with interior stitching helping to integrate it on the front of the bag but only allows for small or flat items before gaping open if an item is too large.
The Lily Jade Brittany’s front pocket has a zipper with leather pull tab for extra security– a perfect place to stash a cell phone or car keys. You’ll also notice that it’s the only tote in the line up with side pockets giving added organization and storage.
Next we’ll talk about fit and functionality. The Brittany has the shortest grab handles which makes for ease of grabbing the bag on the go. A longer strap is included for a traditional tote length strap to use across the shoulder. Both the Portland and the Madewell tote straps were a bit too long for shorter reviewers with no way to adjust for a shorter torso.
All of these totes convert into a crossbody carry which frees up your hands for little ones or other items. It’s been noted that the Madewell crossbody strap has the narrowest width making it less comfortable especially when the bag is filled to capacity. Only the Brittany has the added feature of also converting into a backpack. This bonus feature makes this small but mighty bag a workhorse!
Speaking of functionality, you’ll notice the bottom and top of the bags. The Lily Jade is the only one in the line up of bags that has feet on the bottom.
This not only adds stability to the bag, but also protects the leather on the bottom. Additionally, the Madewell and Lily Jade bags sit a bit more sturdy when full, while the Portland’s tall, narrow shape is inclined to lean over or spill out because of its proportions. Multiple reviewers of the Portland noted they ended up needing to use smaller pouches or inserts to protect the leather and keep organized and help maintain the upright tote shape.
At the top, you’ll notice the classic Portland tote is an open bag and many reviewers stated they wished they had a snap or magnetic closure. The other two bags have a top zip for keeping items secure.
Lastly, we’ll look at detailing and finishes. You will observe that neither the Portland or the Madewell are lined (despite the Madewell description stating otherwise much to reviewers disappointment). They each have one interior pocket that is “attached” to the inside, but are not fully integrated with the interior. Also, the finishing of the leather isn’t the same across the board either. While it’s very common to have variations in texture and color of natural leather, reviewers noted that the Madewell bags had grayish shading and wrinkles in some spots. Multiple reviewers noted that the Portland leather is more sensitive and marks easily.
Our Deluxe leather line comes in a full range of colors and includes a coating that prevents staining, helps keep a uniform color, and offers water and stain resistance to our bags. You find this finish on colors like Brandy, Black, Camel or Blush. Our Old English leather line does not have a top finish coating, but rather is dyed using natural waxes and oils to create the unique, natural finish. Your bag reacts to your touch to reveal its complex coloring. This beautiful technique allows for distressing that will patina beautifully and just get better with age.
When it comes to details and finishes, this is where Lily Jade really shines. All our bags are fully lined with heavy duty material to protect your leather bag and add durability. If you take a peek into our bags, you'll find something unique about our pockets. That’s right, we trim them in leather. The leather trimmed interior pockets help to add rigidity and structure and provide a smooth surface for your hands and items as you reach in. You will also notice that even the interior zipper is trimmed with our quality leather. No detail was spared!
At similar price points for these bags, we feel the Brittany offers more features AND more versatility for all your packing needs. We listen to our community and the feedback they give us. We take those coveted features and we make sure to provide the best hardware, materials, and warranty to deliver a high quality product that will last. While we know there are many styles and budgets out there, we like to compare features to help break down the value you get, so you can feel confident in your investment for years to come.

If you haven't seen our previous posts on ways to use your insert, make sure to check them out (see below)!
Once you have graduated out of the bottles and bibs phase, you may be wondering what to do with your Lily Jade insert tote. We have found so many useful ways to repurpose this organizer, that you will never not want to use it.
We have found two great ways to use the insert as a travel tote. Make sure to pin and save this for future road trips or holiday travel. The first way is a car organizer. ]]>Even if the weather isn’t cooling down where you are, all moms can feel a shift in the air. The stores smell like crayons and newly sharpened pencils. School is starting up and new routines and rhythms are taking the place of lazy summer days.
One great recipe you can add into your week are muffins. You can double or triple the recipe and freeze them for easy convenience. Or you can use the baking time as a fun way to slow down on Saturday mornings after a week of back-to-school hustle. Including kids in the process is so much fun for them and makes memories that last long beyond the little years.
The beauty lies in 3 keys to this recipe:
Ingredients:
You can choose to line a muffin tin with 9 paper liners or spray each cup with a nonstick spray. We opted for fancy scalloped liners which immediately elevates these muffins (and would be perfect for a brunch or baby shower).
You prepare these muffins in the traditional method by combining wet ingredients first then adding in the dry ingredients until incorporated while folding in the blueberries into the batter last (full directions below). Make note that the batter will be thicker than anything you’ve made before, which means you did it correctly! It will be close to the consistency of cookie dough. We have found an ice cream scoop makes the batter easier to distribute in the muffin tin.
Now, don’t skip the magical part… sprinkle each muffin with 1 teaspoon of the turbinado sugar. While you may be skeptical if this step is necessary, you will see that it produces the perfect crunchy lid (making them seem like bakery quality) and the perfect balance of sweetness.
Directions:
We hope you love these as much as we do. We are confident you will want to enjoy these treats for breakfast or afternoon snack all year round! If you make these, tag us on social media!
Today we have a fun two-in-one project! We love getting the most out of our time and energy and this fun project is no exception. We bring you the salsa garden! Gardening is a great way to be outdoors, learn new skills, and experience the joy of growing your own food.
Including kids in small gardening endeavors provides for a fun learning opportunity while making family memories. If you’re intimidated, start small. That’s where our idea comes in: a container garden! You don’t have to commit large amounts of space to your garden--you can use various pots, and can even plant multiple varieties together in larger pots! If you’re unsure where to begin, check your local garden clubs for additional assistance; many have programs geared toward young children.
There are a few key elements you will want to ensure you have before getting started:
Containers- plastic or terracotta pots, even recycled wine boxes (just make sure you add drainage holes)
Good Soil- it’s critical to start with a nutrient dense soil in order to yield good produce
Seeds- some great sources are here, here, and here
Plants- if seeds are too intimidating or you feel late to the growing season, you can buy young plants at your local nursery to plant until they mature and yield produce
Sun and water- you may need to experiment and move pots around to get best sunlight exposure, and of course keep an eye consistent watering.
"What is a salsa garden?", you ask. It's the growing of complementary plants that you can use together to make salsa (or even marinara)! They also happen to the among the easiest to grow! They would include:
You can add more fun by starting a garden club with friends. Make stronger connections to concepts by adding in stories and picture books about gardens and gardening.
Even if salsa isn't your thing, you can try growing flowers from seeds. They are also a delight to watch sprout, bud and bloom. It's also a double delight to share with others from your garden. Whether fruits, veggies or flowers, the satisfaction of having something to show from your own efforts is well worth the attempts to grow your own garden no matter the size.
]]>Don't you love that almost imperceptible shift? The change of smells in the air, the change in temperature, and the transformation of dull and gray to green and colorful? The longer days and budding blooms signal spring and the impending summer season that is almost upon us.
With the turning of seasons, comes a willingness to spend more time in the great outdoors! Whether you're traveling or staying in your hometown, we have a fun family adventure you can take right in your own backyard (or neighborhood park). Better yet, invite some friends and make it a playdate! You can use our FREE Scavenger Hunt printable to create a fun adventure for your littles and friends.
There is nothing more refreshing than to take some time out of our busy schedules to "stop and smell the roses" or look for bugs or clouds or.... you get the idea. Children need to be outdoors and actively playing. Nature occupies children in ways modern technology can't. Did you know that nature provides a rich sensory environment that aids in child development, imagination, and a sense of freedom?
"Whatever shape nature takes, it offers each child an older, larger world separate from parents. Unlike television, nature does not steal time; it amplifies it." - Richard Louv, The Last Child in the Woods
An even bigger bonus? Various studies have shown outside play is crucial for emerging readers and writers! So gather your best buds, print out our printable, and have some outside fun!
We are excited to offer you two fun free printables! We have a Scavenger Hunt checklist with blanks for you to add in your own finds. As well as a Coloring Sheet you can use to also identify objects in nature (even if you don't find them out in the wild).
The fun thing about nature hunts is that there are no two alike! You can go again and again and find new things to discover each time. Tag us in your own adventures so we can see your fun experiences!
]]>We have put together a supplies list for you to gather what you have around the house or to run and grab any last minute items. Then we have an activity and correlating scripture passage to read through and do each day.
Sunday, we wave palm branches and sing or chant "Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna in the Highest!"
Monday, we talk about Jesus cleansing the temple. Use building blocks or LEGO building bricks. We talk about the place of worship that was to be holy.
Tuesday, we remember Jesus teaching at the temple. Using popsicle sticks and paper, construct a scroll and inscribe Psalm 119:105 inside- "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Wednesday, we discuss Judas' betrayal. Using play money or real coins, count out 30 pieces of silver. Place in a pouch or cloth tied up in a bundle.
Thursday, is the day we think about the Last Supper. Perhaps your church has a service you can attend. Wash each other's feet and talk about what it means to serve others.
Friday, we remember the Crucifixion. Make your own crosses with small sticks or twigs from the garden or popsicle sticks. Talk about what Jesus did for us.
Saturday, using a white cloth strip, wrap a wooden doll representing Jesus and place in a "tomb" (cardboard box). Alternately, you can go rock hunting and discuss how big and heavy the rock was that sealed the tomb.
Easter Sunday, take Jesus out of the tomb and unwrap and neatly place in the bottom of the box. He is Risen!
Have you tried Resurrection Rolls? They are a fun cooking activity and visual for our kids as well. Check out the recipe on our Pinterest Board for more fun ideas! Don't forget to utilize our FREE Printable!
We’re back with another set of bag comparisons! This series is the place where we break down and highlight features so you can easily decide the bag that’s right for you. This round, we’re featuring some well-loved classics along with a new launch piece.
No detail was spared in the design of these bags. We know it's important to not only have a fashion forward bag, but also one that is functional. You can see one of the best features of any bag is our pockets! Hydroflask bottles, coffee mugs, blender bottles and tumblers are part of motherhood and taking them with you on the go is simply a given. Notice here how well our bags handle large drink containers.
The Caroline has a tall tote look but features deep pockets for lots of organization. The Caroline is very lightweight in our luxurious faux leather and our community has said that people constantly assume it is real. The Caroline also has a magnetic closure “vanishing pocket” (see that stitch line above the two front pockets?) in front that is super handy for sliding important items securely within reach. The ample side pockets allow for water bottles without compromising the interior space and the flat bottom easily holds all your necessities without sagging down or toppling over like a traditional tote bag.
The Meggan here is featured in our lovely Old English leather. While Old English has a timeless look, we think the Meggan is amazing in any color. She can hold it all and is perfect for moms of multiples. Even when you travel light and have hardly anything in your bag, it still looks amazing. With its classic tote styling, the Meggan is also the perfect "teacher bag" great for holding supplies. Reviewers have also found that the size is perfect for day trips with littles, solo vacations, and even a camera bag with the proper insert! For those days when you need to pack extras, Meggan has ample space to throw in that extra sweater or blanket. Some days it might be just you and even when the bag is only half full, it has that perfect slouch that hangs beautifully.
The Sarah Grace is larger than the best-selling Caroline bag, this style is a workhorse of a bag without the bulk. Her side pockets each hold a 40oz Hydroflask, a large protein-style tumbler, or a one-liter water bottle. That’s some volume. The front of the Sarah Grace offers the chicest organization. The zipper pocket covers the length of the bag, the small front flap has a magnetic closure, leaving the last front pocket completely open for easy grab-n-go. It’s what dreams are made of!
Adding to the list of her perfected qualities, she converts into a backpack with padded straps that can be concealed and hidden with zipper closure. It’s a city diaper bag, a courtroom tote, a travel must-have, a mama of twins answered prayer, and so much more!
When it comes to space, most competitor bags can’t compare. You can see that all three of our bags pass the “three towel test,” for maximum storage.
Of note: the finishes on the bags. Both our vegan bag and leather bag have our signature leather tassels with hand polished stone beads. Our zippers boast our embossed Lily Jade logo on the leather pull tabs as well. Our reviewers have noted that Our Old English Leather is just truly classic natural leather with the potential to patina and get softer with time.
To further personalize your bag, Lily Jade also has a collection of woven cotton and nylon straps that provide an extra measure of customization and comfort to your crossbody carry, adding a splash of color, and an easy way to create a "fresh new look" to your well-loved Lily Jade bag.
While we know you will get compliments everywhere you go with any of our bags, you can, above all, feel put together, stylish and organized no matter which bag you choose. While all our bags have a quality feel and give you a sense of luxury, we have not sacrificed function as they are so practical for everyday living.

]]>We are so excited to share with you, our community, our newest release bags for the season! Some of you caught our Sneak Preview a couple months ago, and have been patiently waiting to see the new line. Well, wait no more! It's Christmas in April.
We have paired some of our newer styles along with a few classics in new, fresh color options.
First up, we have our classic backpack, Anna (in large) brought to you in our newest Old English color, sand. If you're unfamiliar with the Anna Backpack, it is smartly designed to perform as two bags in one!
To provide ideal packing options, Anna’s interior is divided in half and the back half fully unzips down the whole length of the bag. Now you can separate and organize your baby gear, work materials, gym clothes and everyday items into their designated side of the bag.
Next up, we have our newest sleek pack in faux leather snake print! You'll notice right off, that we redesigned the shape of our around-the-waist pack. Instead of one large compartment for stashing items, we have large, medium, and small separately zippered pockets to provide plenty of room for things while keeping you organized.
We ditched the crescent shape which unflatters a lot of our mommy shapes, but kept the easy hands-free design of a multi-layered pouch. It even comes with an extended waist length for every season of life! This fun print makes a perfectly distinct accessory to any outfit.
We also are offering the Brittany in snake print! We of course used our luxurious vegan leather with LJ quality enhanced durability and plush stain and water-resistant liner. Our medium carryall tote has perfect-sized side pockets and also converts to backpack carry. It's quickly becoming a crowd favorite.
Next we have the Caroline (the big sister to the Brittany!). Our maiden faux leather bag was launched with a very enthusiastic response from our community. And what's not to love? This gorgeous light-weight bag converts easily and boasts an ergonomic, permanently anchored, padded vegan leather back straps that disappear completely (zipped up in the back and tucked in at the bottom) when not in backpack mode.
In this newest release, we are offering the Caroline in our Old English Leather in sand, as well as our luxurious vegan snake print . The sand color is a lighter, fresher look without sacrificing the quality of Lily Jade leather.
The beautiful faux leather snake print is the perfect neutral accent for any wardrobe. It looks wonderful paired with other neutrals such as grays, tans, and creams. but it also looks stunning with pastels and brights alike. This neutral pattern pairs well with other patterns (see pinstripe dress below) and is sure to be a hit no matter your wardrobe style.
And finally, we are also offering our popular Shaylee in Old English Leather sand color which is lighter than our camel color. This is the pocket lovers dream! The magnetic front pockets are perfect for quick access to keys and small essentials and the zippered back pocket easily holds a large phone perfectly. With this bag, there’s no need to switch between a diaper bag and purse. We have combined style with functionality.

We love this sweet and savory and dish and hope you will too! Some quick and easy adjustments you can make:
We all crave rhythm and routine. Whether it's our toddler, preschool child, or ourselves, there is no denying the stability to our hearts and minds that predictability brings from our days and schedules.
As moms we know that having a plan is half the battle to setting up your family for success. That's why we have a FREE printable for you to help you organize your day and week to get more done. You can laminate a sheet and use a wet erase marker, you can stick it in a pretty frame to hang in a family command center, or just print off as needed and stick in a binder or planner.
At times, there will always be unforeseen circumstances, but having a plan for how you are going to execute your to-do list is huge in motivating you (and your family members) to stay on task and getting things done. Did you know writing things out increases your likelihood of follow through and success?
Naturally, there will always be the rotating cast of chores that will always need doing- laundry, grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning. But oftentimes there are also time-sensitive needs that have to be addressed in a week. That's not counting bigger projects like organizing and spring cleaning!
We have put together a simple planner for you to visualize your tasks by days of the week, while also having space to make notes of those extra calls, texts, emails you need to fill in whenever you have a chance. The Bonus: a space for a dinner plan! We like the "set it and forget it" method of deciding once, write it down, and then you or your family members know the plan once meal time rolls around.
Some things to keep in mind when trying to organize your time:
Part of keeping your day moving along also involves little ones! If you haven't established Morning + Nighttime Routines with them, start with a few repeatable actions that your kids can make into habits to help as part of an overall family action plan for a successful week.
Keep in mind that as your kids grow and your family changes, so also will your rhythms and schedules. Planning your days can be useful in reducing unnecessary stress and chaos. But remember: the routine and plan is a tool to serve you and your family. You are not a slave to your planner! Some days call for no plan and spontaneity! Continue doing the good work of mothering and have fun in the process! We know there are days that can feel overwhelming, but it won't always be like that. Brighter days are ahead!

]]>We are excited to announce our new launch pieces along with giving you an insider sneak peek at another new design being released! While we have some of our most beloved traditional pieces in our collection, it's always fun for us to take your feedback and create something new. We love our community and appreciate your investment in our designs to help co-create beautiful pieces that are functional for everyday living.
We are thrilled to tell you about our FIVE new designs that come in a array of color choices to meet all your styling needs. We have included both smaller, hands-free designs along with larger, pack-everything-but-the-kitchen-sink designs to help you carry and organize your things.
First up, we have our newest sleek pack. You'll notice right off, that we redesigned the shape of our around-the-waist pack. We ditched the crescent shape which unflatters a lot of our mommy shapes, but kept the easy hands-free design of a multi-layered pouch. Instead of on large compartment for stashing items, we have large, medium, and small separately zippered pockets to provide plenty of room for things while keeping you organized. We of course used our luxurious vegan leather with LJ quality enhanced durability and plush stain and water-resistant liner. It even comes with an extended waist length for every season of life!
Next, we have a redesign of a previously retired bag- The McKenna. This small crossbody carry is the perfect size to take all your essentials with you on the go without sacrificing organization or space. Perfect for date night, running errands sans kiddos, or a girls’ night out. We are loving this makeover to present you with this not-too-big and not-too-small crossbody bag (that also converts to a backpack!) that is perfect in every way!
Moving on to our larger bags, we will start with the Sarah Grace. This bag is larger than the Caroline! The interior boasts one large interior zipper pocket, one side insulated bottle pocket, two large side interior pockets perfect for wipes, diapers, travel cords, etc. The side pockets each hold a 40oz Hydroflask, a large protein-style tumbler, or a one-liter water bottle. We have striven to give you the most volume without all the bulk. And of course, this bag converts into a backpack with padded straps that can be concealed and hidden with zipper closure. It’s a city diaper bag, a courtroom tote, a travel must-have, a mama-of-twins' answered prayer, and so much more!
Additionally, we're excited to include the Marie in our new collection lineup. The unique front design is a showstopper! As always, with all our styles, you get a multi-functional option of being able to wear your bag three ways- tote style, crossbody, and backpack. Our straps are also set nice and wide without sacrificing the shape or accessibility of the bag while wearing it. With any carry style, you retain a clean narrow carry-all tote. Note the large front zipper pocket covers the length of the bag and can carry your tablet and or laptop. The smaller front snap pocket is perfect for your cell phone or keys. The organization on the inside truly anchors the bag as the “must-have tote” for all seasons of life. It includes one full-size zipper pocket, two interior drink pockets (including one insulated), and two large slip pockets.
And last, but certainly not least is the Brittany. She's almost like the little sister to the Caroline. This is a medium carryall tote with perfect-sized side pockets AND converts to backpack carry. We truly think that Brittany is THE tote that everyone needs in their life! She might be your one and only bag but she will most definitely be your perfect added addition to your wardrobe and everyday lifestyle needs.
Top favorite feature: top grab-n-go handles. In addition, you can carry this bag crossbody or backpack style as well! This isn't your average cavernous tote. This bag keeps you organized with front and back full-length zipper pockets, side pockets for water bottles, an interior organization with a zipper pocket and two side pockets.
We hope this breakdown is helpful in deciding which bag is right for you. There are lots of options, but we guarantee that no matter which style you choose, we offer versatility to help make life easier!
Before you go, we wanted to show you our newest faux leather material. That's right, we're bringing you snake skin! Check our these sneak peek pics below! Stay tuned on our social channels for updated ordering info!
]]>For some, it can seem that January is right in the middle of the winter doldrums. But we can choose to put on our rose colored glasses and find a fun twist on an otherwise dull weekend. Plan a Daycation or weekend "getaway" with the family to change up the routine and reset your family dynamics.
Whether it's buying a new board game, or trying a new food, you can turn a simple novelty into a fun new experience. Check out local hiking and parks you can try, or plan a fun picnic at a new locale. Geocaching is another fun activity for most ages.
Make it fun! You can invite friends or family to join you on your adventure because as they say, "The more the merrier!" Even if you're outdoors, you can bring extra entertainment to enjoy such as cards, dominoes, checkers, bocce ball, frisbees, horseshoes, balls, or even a leisurely read.
You can also up the fun factor with food- cozy snacks, sweet treats, and warm drinks will sure to be a hit while you make memories together. Bringing along "vacation food" will make your day feel more special. Consider packing a thermos of hot chocolate, hot cider, or chai, and you can save more than a few bucks by skipping the drive-thru. Make it potluck if you're meeting up with others and it makes the packing easier!
Bring hearty snacks and treats that you wouldn't otherwise have in your regular routine- whether it's chips, popcorn, yummy dips or s'mores, toffee, or even homemade cookies, you can make this day special. Lily Jade Tip: You can use our insert to organize your gear and pack for the day!
Mark your calendar. We all know that even the best intentions can go unexecuted if we don't plan and set our intention to do the thing we set out to do! So, mark your calendar and set aside time to go. Get your spouse and kids excited about it as you plan things. Talk about what you each want to do that day.
Think about an alternative. If the weather turns inclement, consider a backup plan, location, or activity, so you don't have to abandon plans altogether. You can still make the most of your time together even if the details are different than you imagined.
Whatever you do, make sure to do it with the ones you love! Happy Getaway!
]]>At this time of year, we can feel the weariness of hustle and bustle, but it doesn't have to be that way! Whether you're hosting a small gathering or a large crowd, you can keep things manageable with a few tips and tricks we can offer! Inevitably you may find yourself hosting this holiday season, whether it's a Friendsgiving celebration, Thanksgiving dinner, or even Christmas gathering. Don't be intimidated and don't let the size of your home limit the size of your hospitality. In whatever season you may find yourself, our tips are applicable any time of year.
Here is our list in a nutshell, but stick around and read on for more details and hacks:
1. Ask For Help- You have nothing to prove and guests are usually more than happy to bring side dishes, desserts, drinks or appetizers.
2. Simplify- You might have scoured the internet for the best recipe for each dish, the prettiest tablescape, and fun craft ideas. Pick one or two new things to try, but then simplify using easy, tried and true recipes or even store bought items for your own sanity and enjoyment.
3. Start Early- Not necessarily as in time of day {e.g. before the sun rises}, but start by putting the table leaf in, grabbing extra chairs, pulling out your china and serving ware a day or two before and set the table and start prep on some food items.
4. Prep Ahead- This is slightly similar to #3, but for food, you can boil, roast, chop, etc. a lot of food items ahead of time. Clean out your freezer and fridge ahead of time- they are your best friends for hosting. It's easier to warm food the day of your event and only have serving dishes to clean rather than the stress of cooking all morning/ day and having counters full of pots and pans before guests come over.
5. Connect- This part is the most important tip! This meal, this gathering, this event is not a show. Hosting is not a performance. It's a tool to bring people together, to foster relationships, to share the joy of feasting both food for the body and fellowship for the soul.
As you plan, remember you don't have to spend a lot of money or overcomplicate things to be festive. We can easily bring seasons into our homes with small tweaks and natural elements. For our Friendsgiving, we foraged and found pruned branches to use in our arrangements. Candles are also an easy way to add impact and simple elegance. Whether you choose tapers, pillars, some votives, or a combination of all of the above, they bring a cozy warmth to any dinner table. Lastly, don't forget music! Just a soft instrumental station in the background helps set a festive mood and relaxes guests.
Menu planning is great, but be flexible if you have to delete or change things to keep it simple. Buy the pre-made rolls, the box stuffing, the canned sauce. Use the paper plates of disposable pans. Remember a laid-back hostess is a blessing to everyone. Just try to enjoy the process as much as the final event. And keep your eyes on the bigger goal- Creating space, literally and figuratively, for people to feel seen, known, and loved this holiday season.
]]>As the seasons change, we transition from summer fun to cozy winter with several fun holidays to mark time along the way. What kind of traditions does your family like to revisit year after year? Do you have the same fall recipes you make? Or maybe some orchards or pumpkin patches you visit annually? Traditions are what hold nostalgia and memories in place for us and our children.
One way to make fun memories is doing something out of the ordinary right at home. It doesn’t have to be extravagant or expensive. But with a little planning, your efforts can go a long way in making a delightful holiday.
This week, we bring you Spooky Breakfast. With all the traditional ingredients of a hearty meal and one fun twist of googly eyes, you can elevate your meal into a holiday tradition your kids will ask for again and again.
Simply start with English muffins, bacon or sausage patties, and egg. You can reassemble yourself or serve on a platter for custom sandwich making fun.
One easy fuss-free method for cooking bacon is on a sheet pan in the oven. Depending on your oven, you can cook the bacon anywhere from 375°- 400° and between 15-20 minutes (depending upon thickness of bacon).
For the eggs, you can scramble them, cook them omelet style and cut out a circle with a biscuit cutter, or even use an egg shaper for a perfectly circular result.
And don’t forget the spooky eye decorations!!! These are easily found in the baking aisle at most grocery stores. They can be placed on your sandwich, but would also be a fun addition to toast, pancakes, muffins, or scones. The possibilities are endless! You could even pack a fun lunch with a surprise by adding these to almost any meal.
Don’t forget to incorporate seasonal flavors to any meal such as apple cider, pumpkin spice, or even cranberry. You can see we even added spooky eyes to our pumpkin roll to add more fun to the table.
Speaking of fun, you can pick up seasonal napkins, plates, and cups to turn a regular meal into a festive affair. Check out these adorable to-go coffee cups with lids and sleeves! We simply warmed up some cider and served it in these cups.
Whether you are staying home with family or gathering with friends and neighbors this fall, consider fun ways to incorporate seasonal twists into your offerings to make fun memories for all!

Perhaps your school year has had some starts and stops? You are in good company! Ours has a well. But hopefully you are in the swing of things by now for the most part. If you're still trying to find a rhythm with your little ones at home, we have a great solution to offer! Insert another hack with our Lily Jade Insert.
We've shown you some great hacks for using our Lily Jade insert. Today, we bring you the Activity Table. This is a great way to gather multiple activities, supplies, and snacks to focus your little one in an area.
Whether you have a dedicated playroom, or just a small corner or child's table, this solution works anywhere... even on the go!
The ability to play by oneself is a learned skill that has to be practiced. Don't give up or lose patience if your little one has trouble sitting for any amount of time at first. You have to introduce the idea, demonstrate for them, and then practice. This could be a set time every day (for morning time, after lunch, after nap, during dinner prep, etc.). Or it could just be a few days a week.
The activity table and stools here are from IKEA. Little activity tables make kids feel big and in charge as they truly love their independence.
The flexibility of the Lily Jade insert allows you to rotate activities and snacks making playtime fun and exciting. Some activity ideas include play-doh, colored pencils, paper and stamps, or even dot markers. Snacks and books can also be included.
One fun, cheap activity is having a play ice cream table! With simple Dollar store shaving cream cans and a couple of drops of your favorite food coloring, you can have a fun cheap activity that will keep your child engaged for a long time!
Another great solution to corral little pieces or smaller toys is our packing cases. You can keep them organized within the tote or easy to grab and go for carpool line, doctor's offices, or running errands. They come in an assortment of colors and you can even color code your toys by child or by toy type!
With all the new ways we have had to adapt for work, school, and play this past year, we’ve got loads of versatile ideas how to use your insert in a variety of ways:
Stay tuned as we will be featuring more ideas on the blog! How do you like to best use your insert for an out-of-the-box solution for everyday needs?
Did you hop on the sourdough train during quarantine? Have you attempted homemade bread before? If you answered no, the good news is that it's not too late to start! It's simple to learn and the transition of routines and seasons is the perfect time to try a new recipe in the kitchen. Any recipe you find will undoubtedly require few ingredients and that's the beauty of it's simplicity.
The main thing you do need for any recipe is time. Give yourself several days to properly plan out your recipe so it's ready for when you want to bake it. Sourdough needs plenty of to time to rise and become infused with air which just makes your final product fluffier and airier. The other key is to not use plastic or silicon bowls or spatulas. Metal, glass, and wood for your kitchenware are the best to use for homemade sourdough.
A short look back into history shows us that the Egyptians were the first recorded civilization to use sourdough. Sourdough is the oldest and most original form of leavened bread. There are various ways to make this bread, but whichever you choose, we know you won't be disappointed with the satisfaction that comes from having warm homemade bread!
One method is using commercial yeast with water, flour, and few other ingredients. We like this Taste of Home recipe you can try.
Another method is using a sourdough starter. The reason some people love starters is that it is the gift that keeps on giving, because you save some to use in the future. You can continue your recipe making and it cycles in growing a starter and baking loaves. Some people love the rhythm this provides. We found this lovely tutorial so helpful from The Pioneer Woman herself. She gives step by step instructions with pictures to help ensure success.
There is a step where you generally "discard" or remove some of the starter before making a loaf of bread. There is nothing wrong with the excess and many people use that portion to make pizza crust, cookies, pancakes, foccacia bread and more!
If you're wanting to make your own starter, it is very simple. Just water and flour. This gives you freedom to customize to the type of flour you want to use-- whole wheat, rye, unbleached, or a combination of any of those. For instructions on making your own starter, you can see step by step instructions here.
A basic timeline for you to understand is that making a sourdough starter from scratch will take about 5-6 days. Once the starter is "done" and ready to be used, it can take up to 48 hours to get your sourdough ready to bake. Variables such as temperature and humidity all play a part in the process. There are no two loaves alike! This is where science meets art to result in a culinary delight.
After all your hard work, it will be tempting to cut into your loaf immediately, but it truly is best if you can wait an hour or two for your bread to cool. This allows the steam to stay inside a bit longer. Once your ready to slice, the possibilities are endless-- good quality butter is a favorite way, but also avocado toast, cream cheese and jam, ricotta and sliced tomatoes, or even Nutella spread for a decadent topping.
However you decide to serve and enjoy it, it's pretty certain to be a family favorite! Sourdough is always best enjoyed warm and with the good company of family and friends.
]]>It’s the middle of summer and maybe you’re looking for new ideas for breakfast or snacks? Well, we’ve got you covered! If you haven’t already, check out our Family Snack Plate blog post for other ideas as well.
This idea brings together the best of all worlds-- ease, health, and fun! As a mom, you can feel good about what your kids are eating when you provide them choices within certain parameters. The fun part is that the kids feel in control of their servings and choices by being allowed to pick their preferences. The easy part comes when you add this into your weekly rotation of breakfasts and no one fusses about not liking something. This can even become a regular option into the school year!
We would like to present to you, the Breakfast Bowl Bar. It's similar to an acai bowl except with yogurt and/ or blended frozen fruit. We made this happy mistake once when trying to make smoothies and it came out too thick and we ended up putting it in bowls!
The prep is very basic:
**Depending upon the ages of your children, you may either let them serve themselves or you can start their bowl with an appropriate portion and then let them serve their own toppings.
Just like a banana split or sundae bar, we know the best part of these dishes is the actual toppings! This is the part that is fun for your kiddos to layer on and boost their morning breakfast bowl. For the toppings, put out smaller bowls with some of the following:
Depending upon your parenting style or your child, you may allow them to mix and match toppings according to their specific tastes or you could stipulate a minimum such as “Please pick at least 3 toppings” knowing that any combination will provide nutritional benefits.
This is a simple way to give kids autonomy while ensuring that the options they are given are healthy which leads to a win-win situation! Once you start this fun and easy breakfast option, it may just become a regular part of your weekly routine.
]]>Lemonade stands are a timeless way to celebrate and mark the days of summer. Whether you decide to have a spontaneous afternoon or a planned day of entrepreneurship, here are some helpful ways to think about your own lemonade stand.
First, comes recipes! This is highly personal for people who like to use their own secret family recipe or have different sweetness preferences. Whatever that balance of citrus to sugar ratio is, find one that works for you. Pinterest is a great resource as well. Also, there is no shame in providing quality premade lemonade. Try to make it 24 hours or less before serving for freshness.
Next comes the set up. You can use a simple table with tablecloth or you can build your very own stand with a few simple instructions. Here we offer some step by step directions with photos so you can easily attempt your own.
1. Grab 4 wooden crates and brad nail them together. Wood glue works too if you have the time for it to dry all the way (Facebook Marketplace, Walmart, Amazon, Home Depot, or old apple crates work great to find wood crates).
2. Find a slab of wood for a counter if you'd like and two wood trim pieces to nail on the side (we found ours in a reject wood pile).
3. Use outdoor sample paint to paint your stand if you'd like.
4. Hang a simple garland or flag pennants to cross the top (ours is from Target).
Don’t forget to advertise! You don’t want your hard work to result in little to no traffic. Post about it on social media, text family and friends, and make signs! Have your kids make flyers and go to the neighbors to let them know ahead of time. With a little planning, your lemonade stand venture can be a success!
Some helpful tips to consider:
However you decide is right for you to go about setting up, enjoy the time spent with your kids planning, making, and working together to have an afternoon of fun and memories. Enjoy the fruits of your labor and consider even planning a reward trip to the ice cream shop after a long hot summer day!

As parents, we all experience times where we survive off of less sleep than we’d prefer, but it doesn’t have to be a way of life. Whether you’re a new parent, have a toddler, or even a school aged child, we all want one thing; a good night’s sleep!
If sleep is food for the brain, (and we all love a good meal, right?), then why don’t our children just sleep when they’re tired?! That's where we as parents come into the equation to help our children get into a routine and healthy sleep cycle. If only we, as adults, were praised for finishing our meals and taking long naps, we could be living the dream. No matter what your family style or parenting philosophy is, here are some tried and true ways to improve your child’s sleep that you can apply right away.
1. Early Bedtime- This is a huge, if not the most important, factor when it comes to sleep. Later bedtime = early mornings, early bedtimes= later mornings. Here’s why; once our children hit over 4 months of age, their circadian rhythm is established. Children have this optimal window for sleep between 6-8pm. When we miss this window for sleep, they often get a surge of cortisol which forces the brain and body to stay awake longer. This is also why toddlers act wired before bedtime and pushes children into an overtired state making it difficult for them to fall asleep at bedtime, they wake up more AND wake up earlier in the morning. A great indicator that your child needs bedtime moved up is if they wake up 45-60 minutes after falling asleep. Or if you have a toddler, if they are melting down then act wired, you’ve already missed their optimal bedtime!
Children typically do not “catch up” on sleep until they’re school aged. If you put them to bed at 7pm versus 9:30pm, they’re still going to wake up at the same time! They truly need 10.5-12 hours of nighttime sleep. Therefore, the best way to offer your child the ability to catch up on sleep, is to offer sleep on the front half of the night with an early bedtime.
Newborns and younger babies will start off with a later bedtime around 9-10pm, then as they approach 4 months and older, that bedtime will shift between 6-8pm, with 7-7:30pm often being the sweet spot!
Early bedtimes can often fix sleep issues by itself, but this takes consistency. Use biology to your advantage and work with their natural sleep windows. If your child has a busier than usual day, misses naps or has a late bedtime, rescue their sleep by offering them an earlier bedtime, roughly 30 minutes earlier, the following night.
2. Create a Predictable Bedtime Routine- When children can predict their bedtime routine, it can make transitioning from daytime activities to naps/ nighttime sleep much easier. If your child is going through a developmental leap, spend extra 1-1 time with them to help them wind down. If you have a toddler who struggles with bedtime, engage in child-led play before bed, and interact with them on their level. Create a physical bedtime routine chart and go over each step with your child.
3. White Noise- White noise is very beneficial at every age and helps drown out day-to-day noises as well as transition through sleep cycles. Avoid sounds with a lot of variation or music, as these sounds stimulate the brain rather than soothe the brain. Stick to true white noise or shushing sounds.
4. Black Out Curtains- Light inhibits melatonin production. We need melatonin in order to sleep. Before bedtime, turn the tv off and dim the lights to prepare the brain for sleep. This will help promote the release of melatonin. This will also help with early morning wake ups during times of the year where the sun rises early. The sleep that occurs between 4-5am is very light. therefore, if light is coming through the curtains at 5am, it’s going to go right through your child's closed eyelids and wake them up.
On the flip side, if you have a newborn, keep the house light and bright during the day, and dark at night to help them regulate their internal clock and learn their days from nights.
5. Avoid Overtiredness- When our kids reach an overtired state they often act wired or wound up as I mentioned before. Babies will often cry inconsolably. When we miss their optimal "sleep window" and the brain starts to produce cortisol and it can be very hard to transition through this. Watch your child’s sleep cues and place them down for sleep accordingly!
Remember, when implementing anything new, consistency is key! Have patience, not only with your child, but with yourself as well. With time and consistency, sleep will improve and as a result so will the well-being of your whole family. If you’re struggling with sleep and you notice it’s affecting your parenting and relationships, seek help! There are wonderful resources available to families of all parenting philosophies.
