Valentine's is a fun day to celebrate special relationships-- parents, spouses, children, friends, and more. We know that this holiday has been commercialized in a way to imply that this day involves an expensive night out. But really, it's fun to include the whole family or even a get together with friends!
This year we want to encourage you to think outside the box! Have friends over after school for a playdate or invite another family for dinner and share a sweet treat. There are so many fun, easy ideas you can utilize to mark the day in a special way without the burden of a complicated soiree.
In the morning, you can leave Love Notes on the table for each family member when they sit down to eat breakfast, you can pack some in their lunchboxes or backpacks, and even have some in the car or at the snack table for after school. Check out our FREE printable Love Notes from last year!
Some fun ideas to bring a smile to faces:
- Make a special breakfast- try heart shaped toast, berries, and a pink drink
- Serve sparkling Juice in cute glasses
- Leave Love Notes around for your kids
- Make kid’s charcuterie board (see Family Snack Plate for ideas)
- Decorate with simple construction paper/ Doily hearts (*Mom Hack- Don't forget to place in a plastic baggie and pull out each year to save time!)
- Invite friends to share in the fun
Another fun twist is to make a craft or recipe together! The process is the fun or as they say, "It's not about the destination, but the journey." One idea is to make ice cream together. Kids love measuring ingredients, pouring and mixing, as well as working together. There is just something extra sweet about sharing in the rewards of a job well done!
Consider a Valentine's Day themed topping bar. After the ice cream is made, there are so many fun toppings you can offer to make a custom flavors. Each guest can add their preference to their liking.
Whatever you decide, we know a little creativity can go a long way, and opening your door to invite friends can be the catalyst to making lasting memories!
