Hosting Easter & Spring Holiday Celebrations
Isn’t it amazing to think about how much has happened this past year? It is good to acknowledge both our grief mixed with unspeakable joy as we process loss and offer gratitude for the blessings we have experienced this past year. Without question, Easter brings fresh hope.
Perhaps this year, you are able to gather safely together with family and friends. We know that meals are so much more than just a menu, but more about the people that spend time together around the table. We know that people bond over food. So, this is just a simple reminder that you can open your door willingly and with gracious hospitality, without the overwhelm of “entertaining” or having a magazine-worthy table.
If you’re looking for a fuss-free menu option, we love the idea of brunch as it can all be made and prepped ahead of time. Quiche, baked oatmeal, fresh fruit and salad, can make this Easter brunch super easy and delicious. You can double a recipe for larger quantities or try a couple different recipes to give your guests choices. Don’t be afraid to ask guests to help bring sides or appetizers to round out the meal.
If you won’t be hosting guests this year, a fun menu can still mark the day as special. And pulling out fun tablecloths, serving ware, and even adding fresh flowers to your table can make the meal still feel celebratory. Transfer juice and water to glass pitchers for serving at the table. Shop your home to make a fun tablescape with lace, linens, runners, candlesticks and vases for sprucing up your dining space.
This is the perfect time of year to host an outdoor event. If you plan to dine al fresco, make sure you think about your guests’ comfort while outdoors which might include light blankets, bug spray, and possible shade options (umbrella, sun shade, or moving seating under trees).
It’s the time together rather than the meal itself that is important. So, consider having board games or card games on hand as well fun options to engage younger children. You could even have an interactive dessert allowing guests to decorate and customize their own individual dessert to suit their preference (e.g. cookie, cupcake, mini tea cake, etc.).
We know that food not only nourishes our physical bodies, but also helps knit relationships together in a unique way. People bond over sharing a meal together. The memories made together last much longer than the entrée and sides. We are beings created for community and crave connection and companionship. Consider the gift of gathering this year with newfound thankfulness and the hope that springs eternal. From our Lily Jade family to yours, we wish you a very Happy Easter!
